Today is the feast of St. Bartholomew the Apostle. My St. Andrew Missal has an interesting note for this day. It says that the feasts of the apostles are spread out over the course of the year to show that they are the bedrock of the Church.

Alright, I complain about the new calender enough. So I will acknowledge that moving the feast of the Queenship of Mary to the octave day of the Assumption makes sense. But does it count if there is no octave day for the Assumption anymore? I guess it is sort of an implicit [...]

As usual I am behind. Yesterday was the feast of Saint Joachim (old calender) the father of Mary. As a father myself, I am partial to saints like Joachim and Joseph, and rely heavily on their patronage.

August is a bit frustrating for me because the old and new calendars have most of the same feasts, but on the new calendar they are shifted a day or two so nothing actually lines up. Most of the time, major saints stay in sync between the two calendars, but not in August. [...]
