A New Blessed?

I think it is safe to say the New York Giants win over the previously unbeaten New England Patriots in the Super Bowl counts as the miracle needed to open the cause for beatification of Wellington Mara.  Even NFL.com can see that the key play in the fourth quarter was a miracle.

For those who don’t know, Wellington Mara was the long time owner of the Giants who died during the ’06 season.  By all accounts he was a devout Catholic who went to daily mass, and regular confession.  During Advent he used to hang a sign on his refrigerator for his kids that said, “If you don’t go to confession before Christmas, Santa won’t come.”  He also pioneered the NFL’s revenue sharing scheme to help small market teams, even though that meant money out of his pocket (being an owner in the largest market of all).

All kidding aside, it may not get him beatified, but I really do think Mara interceded for his team.  It was just too amazing.  (Yes I am Giants fan).
